Very few people are fond of winter, at least in the Northern hemisphere. Winter brings sullenness and gloom, perhaps even melancholy. Because of cold temperatures people are almost forced to stay indoors for a few months. The lack of sunlight combined with decreased physical activity tends to give people the winter blues. People may seem less willing to communicate and to go out and have fun. However, we are our own obstacles to feeling happy. The weather should have nothing to do with our mood, yet we let it affect us. A change of perception including engaging in a few fun activities will do the trick for beating the winter blues.
Below are some tips you can try if you feel a little under the weather this season. They will help gear your mind into the right direction and maybe spark another fabulous idea.
1. Sign Up For A Winter Sport
This seems like an obvious choice yet we may feel reluctant to do any kind of winter sport due to lack of time, lack of money, lack of willingness, or all three. However, signing up for ice skating, skiing or snow boarding lessons is by far the surest way to get you out of the house and having fun. It will give you something to do and look forward to. Better yet, why not take a winter vacation and head to the mountains with family or friends and test your snow boarding skills?

2. Go Tubing
Tubing is probably the all-time favourite winter activity for both adults and kids. Nobody can beat the feeling of joy racing down the hill or realizing you beat everyone by going the furthest. The tubes are fairly affordable making tubing one of the cheapest forms of snow entertainment.
3. Go Snowmobiling
I have always wanted to go snowmobiling. It looks like so much fun because you can manoeuvre the snowmobile any way you want. Just look for snowmobile trails in your area then go and rent them. As for my own snowmobile adventure, I’ll be sure to post a photo as soon as I experience it.
4. Take Vitamin D
Vitamin D is otherwise known as sunshine vitamin because it is produced in the skin in response to sunlight. As we are deprived of sunlight during winter months, it is imperative that we take the Vitamin D supplement daily to reduce the likelihood of developing a flue, as well as boost happiness level.
5. Host A Tea Party
You don’t have to go outside to have fun in the winter. Why not invite family or friends over for a tea party? Or coffee and hot chocolate party? You can incorporate with breakfast or have a late night get-together. Picture getting cozy by the fireplace with pajamas, blankets, and varieties of tea and biscuits.

6. Run A Movie Marathon
There is nothing better than being entertained the whole day in the comfort of your own home. If you are like me, then you love the holidays because of some extra time to watch the movies with the family. Not sure what to watch? Check out this amazing site which lists some of the highest ranked movies and their trailers. You can then try to find these movies on programs like Kodi and Netflix.
7. Catch Up On Books
Reading is great on so many levels including improving imagination and vocabulary but most importantly it’s good for the soul. Since you will be staying indoors more you might as well pick up reading again. Goodreads is an excellent source for finding new and old books of all genres. There are also hundreds of free giveaways each month so try not to get addicted to this site. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Hopefully these tips have inspired you to try a new activity this winter season or motivated you to stay positive. Remember when all else fails meditation is the go to tactic to clear the mind and fight the blues.
